Small business owners advised to take out critical illness cover

Owners of small companies have been advised to take out life insurance and critical illness cover for their employees.

According to financial website mondaq.com, it can be a good idea for small business employers to take out a group life insurance policy to cover the likely costs that can arise following a death.

These include such factors as loss of profit and recruitment expenses, which could be crippling at a time when many business find their budgets stretched to breaking point by the harsh economic situation.

The website added: "When putting cover in place it would be prudent to put in place critical illness cover at the same time to allow the business to continue paying someone who is no longer in a position to work due to a serious illness."

Meanwhile, the British Insurance Brokers' Association recently welcomed proposals by the Government Equalities Office to remove age discrimination as a factor from the provision of life insurance.
