Moneyfacts.co.uk names the most consistent savings accounts.

Andrew Hagger, Head of news and press at Moneyfacts.co.uk comments:

“Many people don’t have the time or inclination to switch their savings from one best buy account to another, even though new institutions and accounts continually appear. If you fall into that category and you want a good home for your nest egg then Moneyfacts.co.uk has the answer.

“Just as we know that the Kenyans are consistently good at long distance running and that the pictorial content is consistent on page three of The Sun, Moneyfacts.co.uk now provides consumers with details of savings accounts that have historically also offered consistency in the form of a good rate of return.

“Moneyfacts.co.uk, the leading independent financial comparison site, is the only place you will find best buy tables that give you access to details of the most consistent home for your savings over the last 18 months or 36 months, thus giving you the consumer the means to be able to make an informed decision.

“The beauty of a consistently good performing account is that you can put your money there and leave it, safe in the knowledge that it is likely to offer a decent rate of return for the foreseeable future, especially if you are the sort of saver that doesn’t want to keep chopping and changing accounts every few months.”

The consistent account survey covers the following account types:

  • Internet savings accounts (without bonus)
  • No Notice savings accounts (without bonus)
  • Notice savings accounts (without bonus)
  • Mini Cash ISAs

In the meantime, the highlights of the report are as follows:

“Kent Reliance Building Society tops the 18 month chart for mini cash ISAs which is a great achievement when you realise that the society also accepts transfers in from existing ISAs. Usually the top paying mini cash ISAs are able to offer such rates on the basis that it is for new money only, so hats off to Kent Reliance. On the 36 month ISA chart, Yorkshire BS takes the top spot with its e-ISA. Interestingly the only non-mutual to feature in either of the ISA consistency rankings is Halifax with its ISA saver direct.

“When it comes to notice accounts (without bonus), Anglo Irish Bank is head and shoulders above the competition with its 7 Day Notice account. For example, if you had invested £10,000 with this account for the last 36 months, you would have earned £1650.45 in interest – a full £138.11 more than its nearest competitor.

“The no notice accounts (without bonus) category sees the Anglo Irish Bank Easy Access Deposit account as top dog over 18 months and Beverley BS and Chesham BS just pushing West Bromwich BS into third place in the 36 month rankings.

“Internet savings is an area that is becoming increasingly popular and ultra competitive. The latest Moneyfacts.co.uk figures reveal extremely strong performances from Sainsbury’s Bank and Nationwide Building Society, with accounts from Leeds BS, Egg and Norwich and Peterborough BS all managing a top four position.

“The team at Moneyfacts.co.uk is proud to be the first comparison site to offer savers this enhanced range of savings options. We’re confident that consistent savings tables will prove a popular addition to the extensive savings data we already provide.”
