Life insurance just as important as a will

Research from Which? Legal Service has highlighted the attitudes of UK consumers towards making provisions for what will happen after their death, which could mean that some are ignoring life insurance.

According to the research, in spite of the sometimes serious consequences, more than half of those polled (56 per cent) admitted to not having a will, with 33 per cent of over-45s saying they are yet to make one.

Rather surprising was the finding that more than a third of people (35 per cent) who are older than 65 without a will said that they did not need one, which was more than any other age group.

Which? Legal Service senior lawyer Peter McCarthy said not having a will "could have serious consequences for those left behind" with the possibility of the right people missing out.

Drawing up a will is just as important as putting in place life insurance, which can ensure any dependants are catered for financially in the event of death by providing a source of income.

Just like having a will, life insurance not only provides peace of mind but assurances that should anything happen to the policy holder, then the right people will benefit.
