Life insurance awareness initiative targets new parents

New parents in the UK are set to benefit from a new life insurance awareness initiative aimed at promoting the importance of family protection, which is often ignored.

In a bid to encourage all families to consider their financial protection needs, Aviva has launched a new product, which comes with an offer of £10,000 worth of free life cover for new parents in the country.

According to Louise Colley, the head of protection at UK Life, Aviva, the initiative is aimed at pushing the message that life insurance is not only vital for things like mortgages, "but something you should arrange to provide financial security for your children".

He said: "The birth of a new baby is an ideal time to begin thinking about family life insurance needs. Unfortunately this rarely happens.

"The free offer from Aviva is designed to put in place cover, which we appreciate will be insufficient for most families but it is a start which we hope will capture new parents' imaginations and lead them to seek advice about their individual and specific needs."

More than seven million British parents are without adequate financial protection, which leaves their children at risk, research by protection specialist Bright Grey recently showed.
