Caution urged when looking for the best life insurance on comparison sites
Consumers looking for the best life insurance have been warned to be careful when using price comparison websites because the sites do not necessarily offer the best product.
The sites are normally focused on price rather than offering the best cover and it may be worth speaking to an advisor or broker before committing to a product, according to the British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba).
According to Biba corporate affairs executive Graeme Trudgill, the sites do make it easy for consumers to search for products because they "compare millions of policies".
However, due to the fact that they are price comparison sites instead of "suitable insurance comparison sites", he said that the prices provided can sometimes cloud judgement.
"We have seen policies stripped out and cover taken away and the prices are really all about getting things for as cheap as possible," he explained.
Urging people to be "very careful when buying from a comparison site", he went on to recommend visiting an insurance broker "because they will be available to advise you on what is best for you and refine what you need".
The insurance body recently stated that there are insurance products to suit everyone.
